This is not the first time that Adrián Menéndez, born in Madrid, Spain, in 1992, of Cuban descent, appears before us as a successful artist, despite being very young. When he was just 16 years old, he won the First Prize in a public schools competition of Sculpture in Miami-Dade.
From 2010 on, the work of Adrian leans towards a type of surrealism, spattered by pop, and put together by post conceptualism; with predominance of a very characteristic drawing style that helps him to constitute something like a world where the real objective mixes with the unreal in an arbitrary, fragmented, absurd and sometimes simply metaphysical way.
All his characters are linked with certain messages that play with ambiguity, but with his feet on the ground, and focused on the pressing problems that affect us. In his paintings like his sculptures and drawings surge a progressive social criticism and his cryptic hummer and ironies. In Adrian´s work, everything shows a critical inspiration and an updated expression, within a landscape that without being indulgent acquires soft tints and delicate transparencies.
